Parliament Session: The special debate held in the Lok Sabha on the occasion of the completion of 75 years of the Constitution highlighted many issues of Indian politics. In this debate, Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav put forth their views. The three leaders discussed important issues like protection of the Constitution, caste census, defection and politics of Uttar Pradesh. Let us analyze their views on these issues in detail.

Caste Census: New Political Agenda

The issue of caste-based census was raised loudly in the 2024 elections. All three leaders expressed their opinion on this.

Rajnath Singh acknowledged the need for the census and said that it would help in clarity of reservation. He also hinted at preparing it for debate in Parliament.

Priyanka Gandhi took a dig at the government, calling it a victory of the opposition. She said that the ruling party started talking about caste census only after coming to power.

Akhilesh Yadav highlighted caste inequality. Accusing the government, he said that only one class is occupying high positions.

Protecting the Constitution: Diversity of views

During the discussion on the Constitution, all three leaders put forth their views, calling it the basis of democracy.

Rajnath Singh questioned the Congress's love for power. He accused the Congress of weakening the Constitution, referring to historical events like the Emergency and the fall of the Kalyan Singh government.

Priyanka Gandhi described the Constitution as the power of the people and said that attempts to crush it will not succeed.

Akhilesh Yadav, citing secularism and security in the Preamble of the Constitution, said that the current government is violating the basic principles of the Constitution by targeting minorities.

Uttar Pradesh: The focus of speeches

Uttar Pradesh was a major topic for all three leaders.

Rajnath Singh referred to the Ayodhya dispute in 1992 and the incidents of President's rule in UP.

Priyanka Gandhi made the atrocities and police excesses in UP an issue.

Akhilesh Yadav launched a scathing attack on the UP government, highlighting custodial deaths and anti-minority policies.

Defection: Question on political purity

All three leaders also put forth their views on the issue of defection.

Rajnath Singh cited the example of UP politics in 1998 and said that the mistakes that were made were corrected in time.

Priyanka Gandhi termed it "washing machine politics", where tainted leaders get a clean chit on changing parties.

Akhilesh Yadav sarcastically said that the character of the leaders who change parties is being exposed in front of the public.
