New Delhi : Congress has called a meeting of general secretaries and in-charge on Saturday to discuss many issues including organizational elections. General Secretary and in-charge of All India Congress Committee will be present in the meeting, which will be presided over by General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal. Special membership drives, organizational elections and planning agitation programs are its main agenda.The so-called G-23 leaders of the Congress party have been pushing for internal reforms in the party, including organizational elections. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi met G23 leaders Anand Sharma, Manish Tewari and Vivek Tankha at her residence in New Delhi on Tuesday. These leaders are questioning the defeat of the Congress in the recently concluded assembly elections in five states. Sonia Gandhi is meeting these leaders to try to bridge the deep rift within the party.G-23 leaders are believed to be pushing for organizational change, while Sonia Gandhi told the meeting that necessary steps would be taken after the August-September elections for the party president. Sources, quoting Sonia, said, “The election of the party president will be over by August-September. Pay attention to that. Till then I can only change to some extent.The Congress faced defeat in five states (Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur and Punjab) where elections were held recently. Assembly elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat are due later this year.
