INDIA Alliance Meeting: Leader of Opposition (LOP) Rahul Gandhi made a sensational disclosure in Rae Bareli on Thursday. He said that if BSP had fought the Lok Sabha elections along with him, then the BJP's annihilation in Uttar Pradesh was certain. But now Rahul Gandhi calling Mayawati indifferent towards elections is an indication that in the event of no alliance, Dalit voters should decide their own line.

However, till now it has never happened that SP, BSP and Congress have fought together against BJP in Uttar Pradesh. However, in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, SP-BSP and in 2025 SP and Congress fought together. In the assembly, SP and BSP fought the 1993 elections together. Then the government of SP supremo Mulayam Singh was formed in Uttar Pradesh. After this, BSP and Congress fought the elections together in 1996.

The alliance also benefited

In the 1996 assembly elections, Mayawati felt that fighting together with Congress was not beneficial for her. Big parties can snatch the vote bank of small parties. After this, Mayawati distanced herself from Congress. In 2017, SP and Congress joined hands again in the assembly. Then BSP got 19 seats. The ruling SP managed to get only 47 seats and its ally Congress got only 7 seats. While BJP's NDA alliance got 312 seats. In the 2022 assembly elections, all the opposition parties contested separately. In this election, the BJP flag was hoisted again but its seats were reduced considerably. It had to be satisfied with a total of 255 seats.

SP's advantage in 2022

On the contrary, SP got the benefit of forming an alliance with Rashtriya Lok Dal and some other parties. It got 111 seats. Congress and BSP fought alone on all the seats. Both got two and one seat respectively. The arena of Uttar Pradesh is very powerful in the politics of the country. It is said that the Prime Minister comes only through UP. That is why this explosive statement of Rahul Gandhi in the context of Uttar Pradesh came when he is on a two-day tour of his Lok Sabha constituency Rae Bareli. In fact, Akhilesh Yadav, who made a blueprint for the elimination of BJP in Uttar Pradesh, is focusing on Lucknow only.
