Lok Sabha New Speaker: The first session of the 18th Lok Sabha is going on. On the third day of the session on Wednesday, Om Birla was elected the Speaker of the House. After this, the members of the Lok Sabha gave a message of good wishes to Om Birla. After PM Modi, Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav congratulated the Lok Sabha Speaker. This was Rahul Gandhi's first address in the House as Leader of Opposition.

Rahul Gandhi said, you (Om Birla) have been elected Speaker for the second time, I want to congratulate you. I want to congratulate you on behalf of the entire opposition and India Alliance. This House represents the voice of the people of India and you are the final arbiter of that voice.

Rahul Gandhi further said that the government has political power but the opposition also represents the voice of the people of India and this time the opposition is representing the voice of more people than last time. We will support you. We would like the House to run well continuously. It is very important that the voice of the opposition is allowed to be raised in the House.

What did Akhilesh Yadav say?

At the same time, Akhilesh Yadav was seen advising the Lok Sabha Speaker. He said that many glorious traditions are associated with this post and we believe that the House will move forward without discrimination. As the Speaker, you will give equal opportunity to every MP and party. We expect that the voice of any public representative should not be suppressed.

Akhilesh Yadav said that the dignity of the House should not be hurt by the expulsion of members. Akhilesh said that we all expect from you that the dignity of the House should not be hurt by actions like expulsion again. You have control over the opposition as well as the ruling party. Speaker Sir, the House should run on your instructions, it should not be the other way round. We are with every fair decision of yours. I have come to the new House for the first time, so I felt that our Speaker's chair is very high.

Om Birla elected Lok Sabha Speaker by voice vote

BJP MP Om Birla was elected Lok Sabha Speaker by voice vote. He is handling this responsibility for the second time. Prime Minister Modi proposed Birla's name for the post of Speaker, which was approved by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh. This proposal was put to vote in the House by Protem Speaker (Acting Speaker) Bhartruhari Mahtab and the House approved it by voice vote.

The opposition had nominated Congress MP Kodikunnil Suresh as its candidate for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, but did not insist on a division of votes in the House. After this, Acting Speaker Mahtab announced the election of Birla as the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
