Sandeshkhali Case: Mamata government of West Bengal did not get relief from the Supreme Court in the case of women harassment in Sandeshkhali. The Supreme Court said that CBI will continue to investigate the Sandeshkhali case. At present, the Supreme Court has not put any stay on the order of the High Court. The Supreme Court remarked, how can the State Government approach the Supreme Court to protect the interest of an individual. The court will hear the case after summer vacations.State government's opposition to HC's decisionIn fact, the Mamata government has filed a petition in the Supreme Court against the order of the Calcutta High Court, in which it has been directed to conduct a CBI investigation into the allegations of crimes against women and land grabbing in Sandeshkhali. While hearing the case, the Supreme Court expressed surprise that the state government is opposing the investigation being conducted against a private person. On April 10, the Calcutta High Court had handed over the investigation into the allegations of exploitation of women and land grabbing of people in Sandeshkhali to the CBI. The state government is opposing it.Sexual harassment and land grabbing caseHigh Court Chief Justice T.S. A division bench of Justice Sivagananam and Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya had asked the investigating agency to submit a detailed report to it, after which the court was to decide on further action. It directed the CBI to open a separate portal and email on which victims of Sandeshkhali can lodge their complaints related to land grabbing and extortion. The court had also ordered the central agency to maintain complete confidentiality regarding the identity of the complainants. Let us tell you that many women of Sandeshkhali have alleged that the suspended leader of the ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) Sheikh Shahjahan and his associates have committed sexual harassment and grabbed the land.
