After the statement of former Congress party president Sonia Gandhi handing over the seat to her son during the Lok Sabha election campaign, it is considered certain that Rahul Gandhi will keep the Rae Bareli seat with himself. Sonia Gandhi had also described the seat as a 121-year-old tradition of the family. In such a situation, it is believed that Rahul Gandhi can remain an MP from Rae Bareli.

Decision has to be taken within 14 days

The rules say that when a candidate contests from two seats in the election and wins both, he has to leave one seat within 14 days of the results. In such a situation, it is believed that Rahul Gandhi can announce leaving the Wayanad seat at any time in the next three days. The decision on the Wayanad seat may be taken later, but Priyanka Gandhi is the front runner.

Rahul's big win in Rae Bareli

In this Lok Sabha election, Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad as well as Rae Bareli seat. Rahul Gandhi won both the seats in the election. Rahul Gandhi won by a big margin in Rae Bareli as compared to Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi won by 3,90,030 votes in Rae Bareli and by 364422 votes in Wayanad. The victory in Rae Bareli is considered even bigger for Rahul Gandhi because in the last election, he had to face defeat in Amethi seat adjacent to this seat.

Seat vacated after Sonia Gandhi's exit

Before this election, Sonia Gandhi was the MP from Rae Bareli seat. From 2004 to 2019, Sonia Gandhi kept winning this seat continuously and kept reaching Parliament. Just before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Sonia Gandhi became a Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan. In such a situation, the party decided to field Rahul Gandhi from here in the elections and it was successful.

On the other hand, the Wayanad seat is with Rahul Gandhi since 2019. In this election too, the people of Wayanad supported Rahul Gandhi wholeheartedly and gave him victory. After winning, Rahul Gandhi also recently visited Wayanad and thanked the people for the victory.
