Amanatullah Khan News: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday. The ED raided his house and questioned him for six hours. Khan informed about the raid on X, and the AAP alleged that the ED has become a weapon of the BJP, which aims to spoil the atmosphere of Delhi.

Charges and legal proceedings

Amanatullah Khan is accused of illegally recruiting 32 people, including several relatives and local residents, to the board in 2022 while he was the chairman of the Delhi Waqf Board. Additionally, he is accused of illegally renting out board properties and misusing government money. Khan's membership was canceled by the Revenue Department in 2020, and the CBI registered a separate case in the Waqf Board scam. The ED filed a chargesheet in January this year and initiated a money laundering case against Khan.

AAP's response

The AAP called the action part of the central government's political vindictive strategy. Party leader Saurabh Bhardwaj said that all the agencies have been investigating the case for the last eight years, but no concrete evidence has been found. Sanjay Singh also alleged that no economic crime was proved despite the investigations conducted by the ED and the CBI. He also said that Amanatullah Khan needed time during the interrogation due to his family's health issues, but the ED arrested him early in the morning.

Further action

Amanatullah Khan had got bail on 28 December 2022. The court had issued notice to the ED in the Delhi Waqf Board money laundering case. AAP says that this action is an attempt to build pressure before the elections, and the party says that they will continue to fight against this harassment.
