India / One terrorist killed in encounter with security forces in J&K’s Awantipora

One unidentified terrorist was killed in an encounter that broke out between the security forces and terrorists in the Baragam area of Awantipora, Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, Vijay Kumar, Inspector-General of Police in Kashmir, said. “Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Baragam area after specific inputs about the presence of terrorists there,” an official said.

New Delhi: An unidentified person has died in an encounter that broke out between security forces and alleged terrorists on Sunday morning at the Baragam district of Awatipora.

Inspector-General of Kashmir Police Vijar Kumar told ANI that “Encounter started at Baragam Awantipora. One terrorist is killed. Operation in progress.”

The police also said that the search operation is going on and further details are awaited. “Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Baragam area of Awantipora in the south Kashmir district after specific inputs about the presence of terrorists there,” an official told PTI.

He added, “as the forces were conducting searches in the area, terrorists fired upon them.”

The Kashmir Zone Police tweeted, “#Encounter has started at Baragam area of #Awantipora. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice.

"#AwantiporaEncounterUpdate: 01 unidentified #terrorist killed. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow. @JmuKmrPolice," the police further informed.

The exchange of fire was going on and further details were awaited, the official further added.

The incident comes after two policemen were killed in the valley on Friday evening. As per the police, some militants opened fire at the police personnel standing in the market to assess the situation.
