Sanjiv Khanna News: Today is an important day in the history of the country as the country is going to get a new Chief Justice. Justice Sanjeev Khanna will be sworn in as the 51st Chief Justice of India. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him at 10 am at Rashtrapati Bhavan. Justice Sanjeev Khanna will replace Justice DY Chandrachud, who recently retired from his post.

Duration of tenure

Justice Sanjeev Khanna's tenure will be till May 13, 2025. Khanna, who became a judge in the Supreme Court in 2019, has heard many important cases during his tenure. His judicial journey includes many decisions like issues related to the credibility of EVMs, abolition of electoral bond scheme, review of Article 370 and granting interim bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Who is Justice Sanjeev Khanna?

Justice Sanjeev Khanna was born on 14 May 1960. He registered as a lawyer with the Delhi Bar Council in 1983 and was appointed as a permanent lawyer for Delhi in 2004. A year later in 2005, he was promoted as an additional judge in the Delhi High Court, and in 2006 he became a permanent judge. He was then appointed as a Supreme Court judge on 18 January 2019. His term will end on 13 May 2025.

Justice Khanna hails from a distinguished judicial family. His father Justice Dev Raj Khanna has been a judge of the Delhi High Court, while his uncle H R Khanna was a former Supreme Court judge. Khanna has been dedicated to reducing the pendency of cases in the judicial system and speeding up the process of providing justice.
