Parliament Winter Session: The winter session of Parliament is starting from Monday, November 25, which will run till December 20. This time the session is being held against the backdrop of many political events and issues. The return of the BJP-led Mahayuti government to power in Maharashtra and the victory of the India Alliance in Jharkhand have further increased the importance of the session.

Main agenda of the session

The government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has listed 16 bills, including the Waqf Act Amendment Bill, in this session. Five of these bills are listed for introduction, consideration and passage, while ten bills are planned to be considered and passed. The bill based on the Waqf Act is being examined by the Joint Parliamentary Committee, which may submit its report during the session.

Strategy of opposition parties

On the first day of the session, there will be a meeting of the opposition alliance "India" block in the office of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge. In this meeting, a strategy will be formulated to corner the government on issues such as Manipur violence, Waqf Bill and bribery allegations leveled by US prosecutors against the Adani Group.

The opposition's agenda also includes discussing inflation, unemployment and farmer problems as well as the recent by-election results. The Congress-led opposition is preparing to take a more aggressive stand in the session this time.

After returning to power in the Maharashtra Assembly and victory in the Uttar Pradesh by-elections, the confidence of the BJP and the NDA is high. The central government will try to keep this session focused on development and policy-based discussions.

An important aspect in this session will also be that Priyanka Gandhi, who won the Kerala by-election by more than four lakh votes, will start her parliamentary life. This is an important step for the Congress from a political point of view.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju held a meeting with the leaders of opposition parties on Sunday ahead of the session. He appealed for smooth functioning of Parliament and said that the matters of the House will be decided with the consent of the Chairman and by the concerned committees.
