Rajasthan / 15 people arrested for beating a Dalit man by tying him to a tree in Rajasthan

In Rajasthan's Bhilwara, 15 people have been arrested by the police in connection with the lynching of a Dalit man named Ramesh Balai on the charge of goat theft. At the same time, Bhilwara SP Vikas Sharma says that this is not a case of violence against Dalits as both belong to the same caste.

Bhilwara: Police in Rajasthan's Bhilwara district have arrested 15 people who are accused in the case of a Dalit youth being beaten up mercilessly and subjected to inhuman torture on the suspicion of being a goat thief.

The police swung into action in the matter after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The incident pertains to Mandalgarh police station area of Bhilwara district where, a few days ago, a person's goat was stolen.

Accused of stealing the goat, the Dalit youth was tied to a tree in Mandalgarh area of Bhilwara district. He was initially allegedly beaten up by some villagers at a chauraha (crossroads). Later, they tied him to a tree and once again beat him with sticks.

In the video, the youth can be heard shrieking in pain and repeatedly saying that he has not stolen the goat.

The perpetrators also threatened him saying they would throw him on the railway tracks.

Initially, two accused in the case were identified as Babu Lal Teli and Bardichand Barhet. The police had registered a case against them.
