Lok Sabha Election: The Election Commission has outrightly rejected the request of Congress leader Jairam Ramesh and has asked him to present evidence of the allegations this evening itself. Jairam Ramesh had accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah of calling 150 District Magistrates across the country after the voting for the Lok Sabha elections ended. Jairam Ramesh had asked for a week's time to prove his allegation. Now the Election Commission has said that you will not be given a week's time, you should present the evidence this evening itself.

The Election Commission has asked Jairam Ramesh to respond to these allegations by 7 pm on Monday. The Congress leader had said, "So far he has spoken to 150 people and this is clearly a threat, which shows how desperate the BJP is. Officials should not come under any pressure and should follow the Constitution."

Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar showed strictness on the allegations of Jairam Ramesh during a press conference and said that it is not right to spread rumors and suspect everyone.

Taking a tough stand on these allegations, the Election Commissioner said, "Can someone influence all of them (District Magistrate/Returning Officer)? Tell us who did this. We will punish the person who did this... It is not right that you spread rumours and doubt everyone."

Let us tell you that on Sunday, the Election Commission had sought full information from Jairam Ramesh regarding the allegations he has made against Amit Shah. The ECI had said, "The process of counting votes is a duty of every RO (Returning Officer). A senior, responsible and experienced leader should not create a situation of doubt by making such a public statement. He should take care of this keeping in mind the public interest."
