Election Commission: The Election Commission has issued an advisory giving instructions to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi. In this advisory, he has been asked to be more careful and cautious about his statements. The Election Commission has issued this advisory after considering all the facts including the Delhi High Court's order and its response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statements.

Follow the advisory properly

The Election Commission has asked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to be more careful and cautious in his public statements in view of the statements regarding 'Panauti' and 'pickpocketing' for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Acting on the directions of the Delhi High Court in December last year, the Commission asked Rahul Gandhi to properly follow the recently issued advisory for star campaigners and political leaders. In an advisory issued on March 1, the Election Commission had warned that parties, candidates and star campaigners would face strict action instead of just 'moral censure' for any violation of the model code of conduct. It also said that star campaigners and candidates who have received notices in the past will face strict action for repeatedly violating the code of conduct.

Words like ‘Panauti’ and ‘pickpocket’ were used

The Commission had issued a notice to Gandhi last year after Rahul Gandhi used words like 'panauti' and 'pickpocket' for the Prime Minister. The Delhi High Court on December 21 had also asked the Commission to decide on the notice issued to Gandhi for these comments, saying the statement made by the Congress leader during a speech in November 2023 was 'distasteful' (Not in good taste). Sources said that in view of the court's instructions, the Commission has asked Rahul Gandhi to be more careful in his public statements in future.

Pay serious attention to the advisory issued on March 1

"After considering all the facts of the case including the court order and Gandhi's response to the 'pickpocket' and 'panauti' comments, the Commission has advised Gandhi to be more careful in future," a source said. 'The Commission has directed Rahul Gandhi, as a star campaigner, to pay serious attention to the advisory issued on March 1 for all parties, star campaigners and candidates. On November 23, the Commission had issued a notice to Rahul Gandhi asking his stand on the speeches given during the assembly election campaign in Rajasthan. During his election speech, the former Congress President had taken a dig at Modi regarding 'pickpocketing' and alleged that the Prime Minister diverts people's attention while industrialist Gautam Adani picks their pockets. He had alleged that pickpockets work like this. The court's order came after a petition was filed in which objection was raised against Gandhi calling the Prime Minister a 'panauti' and some other statements.
