Manipur / Stone pelting at Manipur Raj Bhavan, 20 students injured

Students held a massive protest in Manipur's Imphal against the recent drone and missile attacks. There was chaos in front of the Raj Bhawan Gate as students pelted stones at police. Police fired tear gas and used batons to disperse students. 20 students were injured in this.

On Monday, hundreds of protesting students in Manipur's capital Imphal pelted stones at the Raj Bhavan. During this, security personnel were seen running away. Police and security forces stopped the protesters by putting up barricades. Several rounds of tear gas shells and rubber bullets were fired. 20 students were injured in this.


These students of the Meitei community have been protesting since September 8 against the sudden increase in violent incidents in Manipur. Local people are also involved in this. On Sunday, after a 3 km march on Tiddim Road in Kishmpat, the protesters reached the Raj Bhavan and CM House. They wanted to submit a memorandum to the Governor and CM.


On Monday, the security forces fulfilled the demand of submitting the memorandum, even after this the students continued to protest on the road. The students say that they will stay here till their demands are met. During this, they also clashed with the security forces.


The students are protesting against the drone attacks in Meitei areas on September 1 and 3. Accusing the Central Forces of keeping silent, they demanded them to leave the state. Also, 50 out of 60 Meitei MLAs of the state were asked to clarify their stand or resign.


These students have also demanded that the command of the unified command in the state be given to Chief Minister N Biren Singh. That is, the command of the Central and State Force should be with the Chief Minister instead of the Center. These people are also demanding the removal of DGP and Security Advisor.


Violence increased in the last 7 days, 8 people died


Violence has been going on between the Kuki and Meitei community in Manipur since May 2023. Violence has increased for the last 7 days. 8 people have died in this. More than 15 are injured. Recently, there have been drone attacks in Manipur. 2 people have died in these.


The Chief Minister demanded to increase the powers of the state government

CM Biren Singh has submitted a list of 8-point demands to Governor Laxman Acharya. It talks about giving power and responsibilities to the state government as per the constitution. The CM has also demanded the cancellation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with the Kuki militants so that the security forces can take action against the Kuki militants with full force. Apart from this, it has also been said to start the process of National Register of Citizens (NRC) and expel all illegal immigrants.
