Udaipur News: After the death of former royal family member of Udaipur and former MP Mahendra Singh Mewar, a controversy erupted over the coronation ceremony of his elder son Vishvaraj. The family of Mahendra Singh Mewar's brother and Vishvaraj's uncle Arvind Singh Mewar had closed the doors of Udaipur's City Palace to prevent the tradition from being followed.

However, after the coronation ceremony in Chittorgarh, Vishvaraj Singh reached Udaipur City Palace for Dhuni Darshan as per Mewar tradition, but the gates to enter the City Palace (entering from Rang Niwas and Jagdish Chowk) were closed. However, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar's supporters removed the barricades and 3 vehicles of his convoy went towards Rang Niwas, from where it moved towards Jagdish Chowk. Vishvaraj Singh Mewar's car is at the forefront. Supporters are trying to remove the barricading.

6 vehicles of the convoy reached Jagdish Chowk

Supporters of Vishwraj Singh Mewar were demanding to take 10 vehicles inside. 6 out of 10 vehicles have reached outside Jagdish Chowk from Rang Niwas. Vishwraj Singh Mewar's vehicle is in the front. Supporters are trying to remove the barricading.

Arvind Singh Mewar's family had also banned unauthorized entry into the Ekling temple by publishing a general notice in the newspaper. They also sought help from the administration to maintain law and order. On Monday, Udaipur Collector Arvind Poswal and SP Yogesh Goyal reached the City Palace. It is being told that an attempt was made to reach a compromise between the two parties.

Earlier, the tradition of installing Vishwraj Singh Mewar on the throne was performed in Chittorgarh. After the advent of democracy, monarchy has ended, but this ritual is performed symbolically. On Monday, the ritual of coronation with blood was performed during the Dastur (Rasm) program in the Fateh Prakash Palace of Chittorgarh Fort.

Vishvaraj Singh was given a 21-gun salute during the coronation ceremony at Chittorgarh Fort. Vishvaraj has become the 77th Diwan of Eklingnathji. Flowers were laid all along the way for the 77th Maharana of the Mewar dynasty. People from various royal families are wishing him well. Vishvaraj is currently also an MLA from Nathdwara.

On the other hand, the dispute over the Dhuni Darshan of Udaipur's City Palace has deepened. Udaipur SP Yogesh Goyal said - The administration tried to mediate, but no consensus was reached. Strong security arrangements have been made. The other party has issued two legal notices warning against entering the palace and Eklingji temple without permission. On the other hand, Vishvaraj Singh Mewar's side is adamant on going to the City Palace.

What is the dispute in the former royal family of Udaipur?

Udaipur's City Palace and Eklingji temple are owned by Arvind Mewar, a member of the former royal family of Udaipur. Mahendra Singh Mewar (died on 10 November 2024) was his elder brother. Mahendra Singh Mewar had filed some cases in the court against their father Bhagwat Singh Mewar.

In 1984, Bhagwat Singh Mewar ended his relationship with Mahendra Singh Mewar. Since then, Arvind Mewar is looking after the family's property including the City Palace. At the same time, Mahendra Singh Mewar's family lives in Samor Bagh near the City Palace.

After the death of Bhagwat Singh, the ceremony of coronation of Mahendra Singh Mewar was performed. Now after his death, his son Vishvraj Singh was coronated. Arvind Mewar claims that Mahendra Singh Mewar was excommunicated by his father Bhagwat Singh and he himself is the executor of his will. Therefore, he does not want to let him perform the ceremony of coronation in the City Palace and Ekling Temple.

There is also a dispute between the two families regarding properties. Regarding this, the court had ordered to give all the property including City Palace, royal residence to Mahendra Singh Mewar, Arvind Singh Mewar and their sister Yogeshwari Kumari for 4 years each. However, later a stay was granted on it. Since then, most of the property of the former royal family of Udaipur is in the possession of Arvind Singh Mewar.
