Udaipur City Palace: Udaipur, which is considered the center of Maharana Pratap's heritage and pride, is in the news these days due to the ongoing disputes between the descendants of Maharana Pratap. Amidst the dispute over traditional issues like Tilak, Talwar and Dastoor, Vishvraj Singh Mewar tried to follow his religious traditions by visiting Eklingnath ji. This darshan was part of the mourning process after the death of his father Mahendra Singh on November 10. Security was tightened at the temple on this occasion to prevent any untoward incident.

Prohibitory orders imposed and City Palace dispute

Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the City Palace and its surrounding areas under Section 163 of the Indian Trust Code (formerly CrPC 144) with the aim of maintaining law and order in Udaipur. Talks are going on to allow Vishvraj Singh to visit the sacred fire place 'Dhuni' located in the City Palace. Superintendent of Police Yogesh Goyal said that senior officers have been deployed to resolve the matter.

Controversy after taking over the throne

Vishwraj Singh took over the 'Gaddi' as the head of the Mewar royal family at an event held in Chittorgarh recently. After this, he planned to visit the 'Dhuni' of the City Palace and then the Eklingnathji temple. However, his uncle Arvind Singh Mewar issued public notices to stop his entry into the City Palace and Eklingnathji temple.

Arvind Singh Mewar, who is the chairman and managing trustee of the Shri Eklingji Trust, cited the trust's decision that only authorized persons would be allowed to enter the temple. He also demanded deployment of police force to ensure the security of the City Palace.

Violent protests and administrative intervention

After the notice was issued, police were deployed at the entrance of the City Palace. When Vishwraj Singh was not allowed entry into the City Palace, his supporters protested, which later turned violent. In view of the situation, the district administration appointed a receiver for the disputed site 'Dhuni'.

War of words between descendants

The tension between Arvind Singh Mewar and Vishvraj Singh has come out in the public. Arvind Singh's son, Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, without naming Vishvraj Singh, targeted him saying that it is unfair to endanger the safety of common people in the name of rituals. He alleged that efforts are being made to put pressure on the administration.

Lakshyaraj Singh also said that if someone wants entry, he should resort to the court. However, he clarified that Eklingnath Ji temple is open to the general public and anyone can go there.

Way forward

This dispute highlights the family and legal issues standing in the way of the rich cultural and religious traditions of Mewar. Dialogue and reconciliation between the members of the royal family can be the only permanent solution to this situation. The people and administration of Udaipur hope that the descendants of Maharana Pratap will end this dispute while maintaining dignity in accordance with their heritage.
