Lok Sabha Elections: Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge has released the election manifesto in the name of 'Nyaya Patra' before the Lok Sabha elections. Focusing on empowering women, farmers, unemployed and youth, in the election manifesto, Congress has promised to remove inequality and discrimination by abolishing caste census and 50 per cent reservation cap. In view of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress has focused on social justice, but Congress's initiative to woo OBCs and Dalits can become a cause of trouble for the constituent parties of the India Alliance. This agenda of Congress may create a rift among the alliance parties.

There has been an important change in the strategy of Congress in the election manifesto. The manifesto aims to attract voters including tribals, Dalits and backward classes. While acknowledging the low representation of these communities in key areas in the election manifesto, the Congress has emphasized on bridging the gap through proactive measures towards social equality.

Historically, the political stronghold of Congress depended on the support of the upper castes and the economically deprived. However, after the Mandal Commission, OBC-based politics has reshaped the political landscape, in which parties like Samajwadi Party, RJD and BSP have emerged as advocates of social justice.

Change in Congress strategy

In recent times, Congress has made a strategic change. Congress aims to revive its electoral prospects by advocating the interests of OBCs, Dalits and tribals. The Congress aims to challenge the dominance of the BJP, which has strengthened its support among these communities.

The manifesto reflects a commitment to inclusivity and equitable representation in line with the demands of the marginalized people. Congress's strategy to focus on social justice also poses a potential threat to regional parties like India Alliance constituents SP, RJD and BSP, which have traditionally emphasized on OBC issues.

Focus on OBC and Dalits

By harnessing the aspirations of these communities, Congress can disrupt the existing political system. Ultimately, the success of the Congress strategy depends on its ability to effectively mobilize support among OBCs and Dalits, who wield considerable influence in determining electoral outcomes.

As the party gears up for the upcoming elections, its emphasis on social justice remains a central pillar of its campaign, challenging established narratives and signaling a shift towards inclusive politics.
