The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Sunday introduced its applicants for bypolls for 3 Assembly constituencies in West Bengal scheduled for September 30. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will contest from Assembly segment 159 at Bhabanipur in Kolkata.
Ms Banerjee had represented the constituency in 2011 and 2016.
With the Election Commission of India saying bypolls, the State's ruling party has begun the marketing campaign for Bhabanipur. Trinamool Congress supporters began to portray wall graffiti withinside the place with “Khela Hobe” slogans looking for votes for the Chief Minister.
In the Assembly ballot held in advance this year, Ms Banerjee had contested from Nandigram and misplaced to BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari through a slim margin of 1,956 votes.
To hold as Chief Minister, she has to get elected to the State Assembly within six months. The statement of bypolls have come as an alleviation to the TMC leadership however the State BJP has raised questions about why polling in 4 different constituencies wherein bypolls are due has now no longer been introduced.
From the Jangipur Assembly seat, the TMC is fielding former Minister Jakir Hossain. Mr Hossain had sustained accidents in a bomb blast in Murshidabad during the marketing campaign in advance this year. The party candidate from Samserganj is Amirul Islam.
